Key West and the Lower Keys
Professional Flats Guide.
Let me show you my
version of Paradise
here in the Lower Keys!
May 24, 2005
Well it's been almost a year
since I updated this site so I thought I would bring you up to date.
(That's assuming that anyone is still checking in here)
I came home from the hospital one year ago this week,
boy it sure doesn't seem like it's been that long. My recovery is going
well both physically and mentally. I still have a long way to go and a
hip replacement may be in my future a year or so down the road. I have
gained back all the weight that I lost (and a little more,
unfortunately) and I'm getting around pretty well. I tire quickly
if I walk to much, but like I say, it's getting better every day.
I am no longer guiding and don't believe I ever will
(never say never). The limitations that I have with my hip and leg won't
let me up on the platform and I don't want to be a guide that just
stakes off and chums. I miss being a skiff guide, and I especially miss
all the wonderful folks that fished with me every year. I had a great
time, made some lasting friends, and have some fantastic memories of
those days. I hope to soon get back out on the water (it's been two
years now) and see if I can still get a fly in front of a fish now and
then. I have several guide buddies that are offering to get me back out
there and as soon as I feel I can keep my balance on the boat you can
bet I'll be taking them up on the offers.
As for the future, I'm trying to start a consulting
business in the computer field, basic instruction and web developing.
For now I have no plans to leave the Keys, but with the cost of living
continuing to rise like it is, who knows. I received a tremendous amount
of support from my friends here and it would be hard to live anywhere
else. Even with all the problems that are facing us here in the Keys,
the small town atmosphere and camaraderie that I feel here would be hard
to duplicate anywhere else.
I want to thank those of you out there who were so
generous with your time and in some cases with your money, to help me
thru the dark days of the last two years. Without you, I sincerely don't
think I would have made it.
The phone number and e-mail address that are listed here are
still good, and it would be great to hear from you.
Take care,
Capt. Jeff
July 2, 2004
For those of you that have been visiting this site
and/or those of you who know me, you may have been wondering if I had
fallen off the face of the earth. Well I almost did! On July 5th of last
year I was involved in a pretty bad accident that put me in the hospital
for the last 11 months. As it goes with accidents, you don't get a chance
to plan for all of the things that will have to be taken care of. So it
was with my guiding business. I have some friends who took care of the
business that I had booked in July and August, but no real way to let
other folks know what had happened, or how to reach me.
With the help of a lot of great people and the
marvelous staff of the Ryder Trauma Center of Jackson Memorial Hospital in
Miami, I'm finally home and working on my rehabilitation. Whether I'll
ever be able to push my skiff around the flats again is a question yet to
be answered. I'll try to keep you posted on my progress. In the meantime,
if you would like to give me a call just to catch up, or to talk fishing,
or whatever; my new phone number is (305)872-0423 or you can email me at
mailto:jsegallos@comcast.net.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Thanks, Capt.
